Amazon Japan's Legal Department is looking for a talented lawyer with approximately 5-12 years’ PQE to fill the position of Corporate Counsel, Payments. The successful candidate will structure, draft, negotiate and advise on a wide range of payments’ matters from standard commercial contracts, to complex, high value transactions and cutting-edge business initiatives; provide day-to-day corporate and business law counseling; administer and resolve legal issues that arise in existing commercial relationships; and support regulatory and compliance matters as they relate to our payments’ businesses.

The position will be based in Amazon Japan’s headquarters in Meguro, Tokyo and we have a flexible work policy (three times a week in-office & work twice from home). This person will report to an experienced, tenured Senior Manager, Senior Corporate Counsel, who reports to the Japan Legal VP.

Basic Qualifications

• Approximately 5-12 years' PQE legal experience at a top international or Japanese law firm and/or in-house legal department.

• Fully bilingual in Japanese and English.

• Experienced attorney with strong negotiation, drafting, and analytical skills, and sound legal and business judgment.

• Excellent interpersonal skills to effectively communicate and coordinate complex issues and projects with diverse levels of management, clients and peers.

Preferred Qualifications

• Experience working both at a top law firm and in-house supporting payments’ businesses is preferred but not essential.

• Experience working in-house or as outside counsel for an e-commerce company is preferred but not essential.
