Statement of the Job:

The University of Maine is seeking to fill a Research Cybersecurity Specialist position. This position works in conjunction with the Sr. Research Data Security Analyst and the Advanced Structures and Composites Center. The Research Cybersecurity Specialist focuses on the administration and maintenance of security for systems handling Controlled Unclassified Information (CUI). Primary responsibilities include routine monitoring for system vulnerabilities related to security configuration or patching and executing timely and regular reporting and remediation within specified timeframes. This position may also coordinate the building of tools and resources that comply with federal regulations, supporting researchers in using these resources through direct consultation, documentation, and training. The ideal candidate for this role should have excellent interpersonal communication skills, with the ability to facilitate interactions and foster positive relationships among staff, researchers, administrators, and other relevant program stakeholders. Above all, success in this position requires having a growth mindset and being willing to learn and grow and having the desire to serve the University of Maine research mission in a collaborative manner. Typical hiring salary for this position is up to $52,000 commensurate with qualifications and experience.

This position requires access to information regulated under U.S. Export Control regulations and therefore individuals must qualify as a U.S. Person under U.S. Export Control Regulations.

Qualifications:

Required:

  • Two years of related, specialized post high school education or an equivalent combination of education and experience.

  • Three years of full-time experience performing related IT technical and troubleshooting support.

  • A strong working knowledge of PC and/or Macintosh hardware, software, and operating systems.

  • Broad knowledge of application software including email, productivity, and internet applications.

  • Collaborative and effective communication skills.

  • Strong customer service orientation.

  • Ability to provide effective technical solutions for a diverse community within a changing environment.

  • Ability to complete Information Security Certification such as Associate of (ISC)2, Security+, CEH, or GSEC within three years of hire

Preferred:

  • Bachelor’s degree or four years of related, specialized post high school education and /or an equivalent combination of education and experience.

  • Three years of full-time experience performing related technical support in a help desk environment.

  • Work experience in a higher education environment.

  • Holds an Information Security Certification such as Associate of (ISC)2, Security+, CEH, or GSEC.
