UCLA Health Lab Assistant II - Pediatrics in Los Angeles, California

Description

Under general supervision of the Principal Investigator, the Lab Assistant II will perform PCR/gel electrophoresis, qPCR, DNA/RNA/Protein extraction of in vitro and in vivo samples, FACs/Flow cytometry, Human ES cell culture and maintenance, Crispr/cas9 development, cloning, transfection, and both immunofluorescence and immunohistochemistry staining. The Lab Assistant II will be involved in primary research project completion including several specialized methods in mouse handling/medication administration, murine and human muscularis extraction and processing, confocal microscopy as well as full active involvement in the data processing, statistical analysis and manuscript development. Training will be provided in specific techniques, but some basic research laboratory experience (pipetting, making solutions, etc.) and scientific coursework (chemistry and biology) are preferred.

Please note that this is a full-time 18 month limited

position and may convert to career.

Salary Range: $21.38 - $25.15 hourly

Qualifications

Required:

  • Ability to use excel and word

  • Ability to perform basic chemistry calculations (molarity, dilutions)

  • Ability to speak, understand, and write English

  • Ability to maintain a legible laboratory notebook

  • Knowledge of basic laboratory safety and regulations.

  • Ability to handle small animals.

  • Must be eligible to work in California (compensation is through UCLA).

  • Experience in sterile techniques.

  • Experience with confocal microscopy

  • Trained managing and passaging embryonic stem cells

  • Experience resecting intestinal muscularis from neonatal mice.

  • Computational experience processing large data sets and perform statistical analysis.

Preferred:

  • Bachelor's degree with science background.
