Job Objectives:

Manual labor involving a variety of duties associated with Reno County asphalt, bridge, dirt, mowing and sign crews.

Essential Job Functions:

Maintain a positive work atmosphere by acting and communicating in a manner to provide a harmonious relationship with customers, clients, co-workers, and management. Comply with all countywide and departmental policies and procedures. Mow or trim grass, weeds, and other tall growth, cut trees and brush with tractor mowers or bucket truck. Install and maintain traffic control devices according to MUTCD. Haul, stockpile or dump road materials or debris using a dump truck. Operate front-end loader to load truck and move debris. Operate water truck in road construction and maintenance. Compact asphalt or aggregate materials with rollers. Power broom asphalt surfaces. Perform minor maintenance on equipment and assist mechanics in servicing or repairing equipment. Pick up loose paper and other debris. Train on heavy equipment. Plow snow with truck plows and spread ice treatment materials. Maintain written records as required for completion of daily task sheets. Perform normal cleanup around work areas. Other duties as assigned when the work is similar, related or a logical assignment of the position.

Equipment:

Operate all job-related machinery, equipment, tools, and other aids as required, necessary, or needed in the performance of these job functions using equipment such as: tandem axle dump trucks, over 1-ton trucks, bucket truck, tractors, tractor mowers, tractor attachments, front end loaders, rollers, brooms, brush chippers, water trucks, backhoes, pothole patcher, paint striping machine and other light and medium equipment owned by Reno County Public Works.

Work Environment:

5% indoors and 95% outdoors. Exposure to summer heat, winter cold and other inclement weather conditions. Work around noise and road machinery, dusty work areas and occasional exposure to poisonous insects, animals and plants. Some exposure to exhaust fumes from equipment in truck shed and shop. At times will work in close proximity of public traffic. Periodic use of materials, which have an MSDS report on how to safely handle them.
