Henry Ford Health System Contingent Nurse Practitioner/Physician Assistant – Hospitalist - Kingswood Hospital in Ferndale, Michigan

Position Summary:

This is a Family Advanced Practice Professional (APP) Job Opening. Both qualified/experienced NP and PA applicants will be considered, as well as new graduates. New graduates must have experience working in a psych hospital as an RN.

The APP will coordinate care of this patient population in collaboration with all members of the health care team. This is a contingent position, supporting Primary Care based out of Kingswood Hospital. This position will be 100% inpatient.

Ideal candidates will have 1 year or more of work experience as an APP

APP candidates should be family Nurse Practitioner or Adult Nurse Practitioner

  • Independently evaluates patients in the hospital

  • Ordering/interpreting testing and lab results, modifying plan of care to address results

  • Provide clinical expertise and direction to support patient medication management

  • Maintain accurate documentation regarding patient status, evaluations, and treatments to physicians, streamline the patient transfer process between levels of care, including communicating specific patient needs to internal and external team members

  • Perform other related duties as required to assure patient safety and satisfaction

  • Participate in the development and presentation of educational experiences for patients, families, and health care professionals

Weekend requirement– may be necessary sometimes as this is a contingent position

    Working Conditions:

Moderate physical activity. Requires handling of average-weight objects up to 25 pounds or standing and/or walking for more than four (4) hours per day.

Work environment involves exposure to potentially dangerous materials and situations that require following extensive safety precautions and may include the use of protective equipment

Work is normally performed in a typical interior/office work environment

Will work with blood or blood-borne pathogens and will require OSHA training

Provides inpatient medical care, with the supervision but not necessarily the presence of a qualified physician member of the medical staff; e.g.: Patient history, physical examination, ordering and interpreting tests, making diagnoses and instituting treatment plans. Provides inpatient consultation on internal medicine conditions, and may unction as a critical team member on the hospital code team. In conjunction with the supervising physician conducts admission evaluations and assessments and provides inpatient medical coverage for community physicians as necessary. May be required to take call. Specific procedures within the Department of Medicine are individually credentialed as indicated by training and experience. EDUCATION & EXPERIENCE: Requires Master¿s Degree in Nursing; Licensure as Certified Nurse Practitioner; Licensure as a Registered Nurse; and BCLS Certification.

Minimum Job Requirements:

Education/Training

  1. NP – Completion of a Nurse Practitioner training program accredited by the Commission on the Collegiate of Nursing Education (CCNE) or the National League for Nursing Accrediting Commission (NLNAC)

OR

  1. PA – Completion of a Physician Assistant training program accredited by the Accreditation Review Commission on Education for the Physician Assistant (ARC-PA)

Continuing Education

  1. Applicant must have sufficient education credits to maintain licensure as required by the applicable State of Michigan licensing board

    Certification
  2. NP – Certification by a certification body recognized by the State of Michigan

  3. PA – Certification by National Commission on Certification of Physician Assistants (NCCPA)

Other

  1. Michigan License, or in process of applying (must have proof of application)
