Job Summary:

The Family Peer Advocate provides support to families while their child is enrolled in OMH programs (ITP and RTF) at OLV Human Services. The Family Peer Advocate serves as a link for families to resolve concerns or coordinate advocacy for the youth and family. The Family Peer Advocate provides information and assistance with referrals to other agencies or programs upon discharge. The Family Peer Advocate assists Peer Advocates in supporting youth in OLV Human Services programs.

Essential Job Duties:

  • Engages with the referred client and their family prior to admission, initiating a supportive relationship for the family.

  • Travels to the family home as needed to provide supports.

  • Attends NYS OMH accreditation for a Family Peer Support Person, during first year of hire.

  • Maintains certification in FANS annually.

  • Conducts and documents the FANS as well as progress documentation within the Electronic Medical Record (eCR).

  • Acts as liaison with outside treatment providers as needed.

  • Attends all required internal training to maintain competence in position and attends external trainings as directed or per request, for ongoing professional growth and development.

  • Supports Peer Advocates who are assigned to OLV Human Services.

  • Complies with all federal and state regulations and agency policies pertaining to HIPAA, false claims, whistleblower policies and all others.

  • Performs other duties and assumes other responsibilities as may be assigned by the Director of RTF Program, including policy and form revisions related to admissions.

  • Any other duty as assigned by your Supervisor.

Skills:

  • Computer skills

  • Clinical knowledge of appropriate evidence-based treatment modalities for children and families

  • Knowledge of OMH regulatory expectations

  • Knowledge of electronic record keeping

Minimum Education Required:

  • Associate degree or higher in human services related field

Minimum Experience Required :

  • 3 years’ experience required, such as home-based services, case management services, or working with individuals’ behavior health or intellectual/developmental disability.

  • Family member of person with behavior health or intellectual/developmental disability.

License/Registration/Certifications Required:

  • Valid New York State Driver’s License

Training Requirements:

  • New Hire Orientation

Physical Requirements:

The overall nature of the position is sedentary requiring little physical effort with occasional light physical exertion required. There is little, if any, exposure to environmental conditions

  • The constant physical demand of the position is sitting.

  • The frequent physical demands of the position are standing, walking, climbing, talking, hearing, repetitive motions, and eye/hand/foot coordination.

  • The occasional physical demands of the position are lifting, carrying, pushing, pulling, balancing, stooping, crouching, reaching, handling, grasping, and feeling.
