Position Summary:

University Advancement (https://www.buffalo.edu/advancement.html) has an exciting opportunity for an Assistant Director or Associate Director of Identity-Based Alumni Engagement. The final title (Assistant Director or Associate Director) will be determined based on the qualifications and experience of the chosen candidate. In this role, the selected candidate will play a key part in advancing our alumni engagement efforts, focusing on identity-based initiatives. This position will report to the Director of International and Affinity Engagement.

The Assistant Director or Associate Director will:

  • Create, manage, and sustain identity-based alumni ( IBA ) strategies that increase engagement of UB alumni from historically excluded and marginalized communities.

  • Manage and direct the identification, training, engagement, stewardship, and recognition of alumni and alumni volunteers from demographically diverse groups.

  • Build diversity awareness and inclusion practices for all UB alumni engagement opportunities, and lead conversations to coordinate messaging, programming, and relationship building to achieve the Office of Alumni Engagement’s diversity, equity, inclusion, and belonging objectives.

  • Build and nurture relationships with students, student clubs, alumni, and pre-existing IBA groups; plan and execute volunteer, engagement, and philanthropic opportunities, and serve as the liaison to specific alumni communities and campus partners (Division of Student Life, Office of Inclusive Excellence, Unit Diversity Officers, etc.) .

  • Conduct 1-1 discovery and stewardship meetings with alumni, donors and prospective donors.

Salary range: $60,000 – $73,000

Assistant Director: $60,000 – $65,000

Associate Director: $66,000 – $73,000

Minimum Qualifications:

  • Assistant Director (minimum of two years) Associate Director (minimum of three years) of experience in building, working with, and supporting a diverse community.

  • A minimum of two years of professional experience in event planning, volunteer management, program development or related experience.

  • Excellent interpersonal, organizational, and communication (written and verbal) skills; proven success in effectively communicating with diverse audiences.

  • Ability to manage multiple priorities.

  • Proficiency in the usage of Microsoft Office systems.

  • Ability to work occasional nights and weekends. Candidate must otherwise demonstrate their capacity to meet the transportation requirements of the position.
