Amazon Sr. Economist, Packaging Decision Science in Bellevue, Washington
Description
Are you interested in improving the customer packaging experience, reducing waste, increasing sustainability, and improving supply chain efficiency? The Amazon Mechatronics & Sustainable Packaging team is looking for an experienced, Sr. Economist to research, design, and implement of tools used to optimize packaging given multi-goals including our commitment to reaching 100% net-zero carbon by 2040. Mechatronics & Sustainable Packaging sets the global, multi-year strategic packaging vision to drive waste and cost reduction and contribute directly to Amazon’s Climate Pledge goals. Our products are public facing and provide a unique opportunity to interact with end customers on every order.
Key job responsibilities
Economists at Amazon are expected to work directly with other economists, scientists, and senior management on key business problems to understand customer behavior, damage to products, and optimal economic packaging choices. You will build econometric models, using our world class data systems, and apply economic theory to solve business problems in a fast moving environment. Economists at Amazon will be expected to develop new techniques to process large data sets, address quantitative problems, and contribute to design of automated systems around the company.

Basic Qualifications
PhD in economics or equivalent
Experience in building statistical models using R, Python, STATA, or a related software
5+ yrs of relevant, broad research experience after PhD degree
Preferred Qualifications
Experience in analytics and applied economics
Experience in developing and executing an analytic vision to solve business-relevant problems
Experience in developing and executing an analytic vision to solve business-relevant problem
Track record of publications in top-tier journals and conferences
Experience with experimental design and causal analysis
Constructively critique peer research and mentor junior scientists and engineers.

Our compensation reflects the cost of labor across several US geographic markets. The base pay for this position ranges from $127,300/year in our lowest geographic market up to $247,600/year in our highest geographic market. Pay is based on a number of factors including market location and may vary depending on job-related knowledge, skills, and experience. Amazon is a total compensation company. Dependent on the position offered, equity, sign-on payments, and other forms of compensation may be provided as part of a total compensation package, in addition to a full range of medical, financial, and/or other benefits.
