Department Information

The Colorado Department of Military & Veterans Affairs (DMVA) has four major operational divisions: Army National Guard, Air National Guard, Civil Air Patrol, and Veterans Affairs. These divisions utilize state and federal resources to provide our communities, state, and nation with a ready military force for national defense and State emergency response as well as providing assistance to our Colorado Veterans.

Description of Job

This position is located at Buckley Air Force Base in Aurora and supports the Civil Engineering Division, with occasional assistance to Greeley Air National Guard station, by performing structural and carpentry-based work. The work schedule of this position is Tuesday through Friday, 6:15 a.m. to 5:00 p.m. Occasional emergency call-backs may be required and this position is expected to assist in after hours and weekend snow removal activities when needed. Specific duties include, but are not limited to:

  • maintaining, repairing, and installing door systems for buildings and facilities, including hangar doors, overhead equipment doors, and personnel doors;

  • maintaining, repairing and installing small electrical systems, window systems, floor covering systems, and cabinets;

  • cutting glass and Plexiglass using proper type of glazing for application;

  • maintaining and repairing roofing systems from shingles to membrane, curbing, gutter and downspouts drainage systems;

  • performing routine maintenance on all types of roof, doors, walls, flooring and window systems;

  • performing a variety of duties in the structural trades to include dry walling, caulking, flooring, roofing, weather stripping, painting, and hanging/installing doors, hangar doors, windows and hardware;

  • performing administrative work with computerized work order systems, time management systems, reports, ordering materials, establishing work estimates, developing work orders, and a variety of paper-centered duties;

  • occasionally inspecting construction projects as a Contracting Officer Technical Representative involving documenting daily construction events, and logging technical information to insure contract compliance and providing technical clarification to contractors;

  • assisting locksmith with Best Lock system and other systems on base; and

  • assisting other shops/trades (i.e. electrical, HVAC, grounds maintenance, etc.) as required or needed.

Minimum Qualifications, Substitutions, Conditions of Employment & Appeal Rights

Minimum Qualifications:

Four years of progressively responsible experience in the structural trades that included electrical and carpentry maintenance and/or installing and repairing door systems (overhead, hangar).

Substitutions:

Successful completion of a formalized apprenticeship program or higher level course work from an accredited, non-correspondence, vocational or trades school in electrical and carpentry may substitute for the required experience on a year-for-year basis. You must attach your transcripts to your on-line application.

Conditions of Employment:

  • Must be able to work rotating shift assignments, overtime, and on-call as needed.

  • Must be able to work after hours performing snow removal operations and/or assisting other shops during weather-related events.

  • Must be able and willing to lift a variety of heavy equipment such as garage doors, solid wooden doors, etc. of varying weights.

  • Must be able to pass a background check at initial employment (felony or drug convictions are not consistent with base security requirements).

  • Continued employment is conditional upon the successful completion of a security clearance within the first nine months of employment.

  • Must be willing to submit to random drug and alcohol testing.
