How your work would contribute to our organization and the Twin Cities region:

TheBridge Fellow -Associate BI Developeris an entry-level role responsible for helping design, develop, and maintain business intelligence (BI) reporting and analytical solutions. They help collaborate with technology and business units to understand BI objectives and Key Performance Indicators and may use quantitative and/or qualitative analysis. They help create a variety of solutions including paginated reports, dashboards, interactive visualizations, metrics, dataflows, shared datasets, and/or predictive models (AI/ML). They help make these available to reporting consumers, including executives, managers, line-of-business users, business analysts, data scientists, citizen developers, government partners, and/or the public at large. They help administer, monitor, and maintain reporting solutions, ensuring their security, performance, and availability. They may also help administer BI tools and may identify and resolve data quality issues.

The Bridge Fellow - Associate BI Developerworks on matters of limited complexity in a support role and their work is closely managed. They work with reporting solutions of less complexity that typically do not have council-wide impact and perform routine and less complex reporting and maintenance tasks. They are often directed in several aspects of the work. This role requires entry-level knowledge of reporting technologies, databases (DBs), data modeling, structured and unstructured data, and programming skills. They must learn and become aware of and comply with data governance and data security requirements.

What is the Bridge Program?

The Bridge Program is a long-term, two-year position, which allows students and recent graduates to bridge the gap between their education and experience to become successful in the workplace. The Bridge program is designed to be along-term temporary (2 years) position. This position is eligible for benefits.

What you would do in this job

  • Determine and analyze stakeholder requirements.

  • Design, develop, and maintain reports, data visualizations, dashboards, metrics, and analytical solutions using a variety of BI tools and technologies.

  • Utilize a variety of data sources including structured and unstructured data.

  • Where applicable use operational and reporting DBs, data stores, data lakes, data warehouses, and data marts for reporting and analytics.

  • Perform BI development using various software methodologies.

  • Write and understand SQL queries and SQL best practices.

  • Understand data security and data classifications.

  • Innovate and leverage emerging technology.

  • Provide on-going BI reporting production support and maintenance.

  • Install and configure BI software.

  • Script, automate, configure, and monitor BI processes.

  • Setup and manage BI code repositories.

  • Support non-production BI environments and code pipelines.

  • Partner with Servers, Storage and Backup on server OS and file backups.

  • Monitor BI performance, manage IS alerts and user subscriptions.

  • Comply with all data-related federal, state, and local laws.

  • Follow incident, service, and change management processes and procedures.

  • Adhere to Data Practices retention schedules.

  • Support end users with self-service reporting.

What education and experience are required for this job (minimum qualifications)

Bachelor’s degree (or soon to graduate within 6 months) in computer science/engineering, information technology, or related field.

OR

Associate’s degree (or soon to graduate within 6 months) computer science/engineering, information technology, or related field AND two years of relating experience in information technology.

Bridge Program Eligibility:

Graduated (or soon to graduate within 6 months) with a 4-year degree/master’s degree within the last 2 years from posting date.

OR

Graduated (or soon to graduate within 6 months) with a 2-year degree within the last 2 years from posting date AND 2 years of relatable experience.

OR

Current Intern of the Metropolitan Council

What additional skills and experience would be helpful in this job (desired qualifications):

  • Ability to gather and analyze stakeholder requirements.

Work Environment:

Work is performed in a standard office setting. Some positions may require travel between primary work site and other sites.

Full Salary Range: $29.69 - $44.82 hourly / $61,755 - $93,226 annually
